Argentina star Lionel Messi will not play in Monday's Copa America opener against Chile in Santa Clara, Calif., Diarrio As reported.
According to the report, although Argentina's medical team was noncommittal about the decision, it has been determined that Messi's lower-back injury will prevent him from playing.
The decision is at least in part preventative, so that Messi will be able to participate in Argentina's other Copa America games. Argentina is in action again Friday in group play when it faces Panama in Chicago.
Messi sustained the injury May 27 in a 1-0 friendly victory over Honduras in which he was kneed in the back. He was diagnosed afterward with a deep bone bruise in the lower lumbar region.
Diarrio As reported that the Barcelona star continues to feel pain in his lower back.
Messi has jogged only twice since arriving in California, the second session being of a lower intensity than the first, ESPN FC reported, citing unidentified sources with knowledge of the situation.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner and Barcelona star joined his national team Friday, arriving late from Spain where he and his father are on trial for tax evasion.

Center City Ta Khmao
Center City Ta Khmao is a spectacular development located along the Tonle Bassac riverfront. It incorporates residential, commercial (with office and retail space) and leisure amenities offering unparalleled convenience.
Center City Ta Khmao is a joint venture between local developer Tang Kung Group and Malaysian investor who also developed Riverside Group in Melbourne, Australia. Tang Kung Group has almost 20 years in the real estate industry initially invested in selling properties and since expanded to property development.
The complex covers 15,643 square meters along with 10,668 square meters of a beautified ground floor landscape, with a modern architectural design of two 27-story towers totaling 484 condominium units, surrounded by 68-commercial complex, 2-story shopping mall, 3-story car park and one level dedicated to leisure amenities such as health & fitness center, swimming pools, jogging paths and children’s playground. Center City Takhmao is a luxurious sanctuary tailored to redefine world class living.
As forecasted by Cambodia’s most-celebrated architect and urban planner, H.E. Vann Molyvann, Phnom Penh city will continue to grow toward Ta Khmao as this area is highly flood resistant, and will remain so for the future. The developer behind Center City Ta Khmao thus views Ta Khmao as the most sustainable region for residential development, with Molyvann’s expert understanding in mind. With residential units ranging from studio to 3 bedrooms finished to the highest order with world class amenities, and with modern office space and a trendy shopping precinct right at your doorstep, Center City Ta Khmao is leading the way for a new generation craving a ‘Work, Live and Play’ lifestyle.
Home to the affluent, elite and powerful, Takhmao City will see its first high-rise condominium development. Last week, a Cambodian-Malaysian joint venture announced the construction launch of Center City Takhmao, a luxury condominium located 11 kilometers south of Phnom Penh. While the planned building would mark the first high-rise within what would be Phnom Penh’s suburbs, the development could spark the beginning of additional buildings on the capital’s outskirts.
Tang Kong, the Cambodian joint venture partner of Center City Takhmao, said that while project was first announced in early 2015, the construction plan and architectural design is now complete.

Tang added that the foundation would be finished later this week, and that the project would be open for sales soon.
“We will officially launch the construction and sales on March 20. [Everyone] will have seen with their own eyes the progress that our company has made,” he said.
Along the grassy banks of the Tonle Bassac River, the 118-metre twin building will feature 400 units of which 90 per cent will have a waterfront view. The top floor will have “sky villas” in the style of ancient Khmer temple architecture, while the main building will be surrounded with shop houses, shopping malls, restaurants, offices, banks, and entertainment facilities, said Kong.
Despite the development being located officially outside of Phnom Penh, Kim Heang, president of CVEA, voiced optimism towards the success of the development.
“It’s a good sign that the construction sector is developing and growing in Takhmao City—the closest province to the city,” he said.
Surveying the purchasing power of those who reside in Phnom Penh’s south, Heang acknowledged that Takhmao City is home to many “high-ranking government officials and elite families.”
“A country with a strong construction sector will expand into every direction, and that shows the real strength of the sector,” he said.
Century 21 Cambodia Director Chrek Soknim said that in order for Takhmao City to further develop, infrastructure must follow. Located along National Road 2 and only five to six kilometers away from Monivong Bridge, Soknim believes Takhmao City, along with the planned future ING City, could span the growth of a large economic zone.
“If you look at the road belt along the southern part of the capital, Takhmao City’s infrastructure is ready for development, with the bridge crossing the Tonle Bassac River and heading towards the Chbar Ampov district.”

Luis Suarez never expected to replace Lionel Messi as Barcelona's number nine when he moved to the Spanish giants from Liverpool in 2014.
Suarez scored 40 goals from 35 appearances in the league this season, pipping Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo to the award with a hat-trick on the final day of the league season and, more remarkably, usurped Messi as Barca's preferred central striker in the process.Suarez has made remarkable improvements on already good form since swapping Anfield for Camp Nou and capped off a second successive La Liga-winning campaign with the Pichichi Trophy, awarded to the top goalscorer.
Five-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi has moved back out to a role on the left side of attack to get the best out of Suarez, much to the Uruguayan's shock.
"I never imagined playing in this position because Leo was playing as the 'nine', and I thought, 'where are they going to play me?'," he told BeIN Sport.
"We get along very well, both on and off the park.
"Sometimes it is hard to understand, because a striker is always angry when they’re not the main star, but here it does not happen like that.
"There is nothing false or acted. It is a true friendship, where there is zero jealousy and where we get along well.
"We advise each other and we are glad when things go well for each other.
"For me, I tell my children I played with the best player in history and that is a privilege."
Suarez also discussed his controversial bite of Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and expressed his humiliation at the incident, but said he was pleased with how he reversed his fortunes.
"It was very painful, especially when I was aware that I was wrong," Suarez said.
"What hurts me most is the way I was treated. [The suspension] was difficult, but I took it as I had to.
"Then I thought, 'I am privileged', with how I reversed it. I think that not everyone could have reversed the situation as I have."
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — Thousands of Cambodians joined a colorful procession on Friday to return what they believe are Buddha's relics to a mountaintop shrine from where they were stolen three years ago.
The relics contained in a golden urn were placed in a float built around a car, resembling a giant golden swan complete with little temples on it. Four Buddhist monks sat on each corner of the float and prayed throughout the journey.
The float was driven some 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh to the Oudong shrine. Buddhist monks, government officials, students and laypeople joined the procession on motorcycles and other vehicles.
The urn was stolen in 2013, and recovered a year later but was temporarily placed at the Royal Palace. Four guards at the shrine and one more person were arrested.
The reinstallation took place on a national holiday to celebrate what is locally known as Visak Bochea, said to be the holiest day in the Buddhist calendar marking the birth, enlightenment and death of Buddha. It is known by similar names in other Buddhist countries.
Once the relics arrived at its destination, the procession went around the mountain. The chief monks then walked up to the shrine and received the urn from the culture minister.
Several countries in Asia possess relics believed to have come from the body of Buddha, and the stolen urn holds enormous religious and cultural significance for Cambodia, a predominantly Buddhist nation.
The relics were given to late King Norodom Sihanouk in 1957 by Sri Lanka to commemorate the 2,500th anniversary of Buddha's birth.
Chhreung, Len who traveled some 300 kilometers (200 miles) from northwestern Battambang province to join the parade, said she has no regret spending time, money and energy to be here because the remnants of Buddha's body were sacred for Cambodia and for her.
"Once I learned the news from my relatives in Phnom Penh that the remnants would be reinstalled today, I gave up all my farming work and took a bus straightaway," Chreung Len, 68, said.
She added that she hopes authorities will take more care to safeguard the urn and the relics.
Facebook is partnering with Warner Music on a new feature called Slideshow that lets users soundtrack their photos and videos, with popular songs. Facebook confirmed to Digital Trends that Slideshow is being tested in Australia this week.
The social network currently has a similar function in its Moments app, which lets you add a snippet from the company’s personal collection of music to your existing images and videos. The platform has been testing that feature in its flagship iOS app since October 2015.
The Slideshow option, in its current trial format, is available to select users when they go to create a post. Like Moments, it automatically groups together photos and videos from an event, such as a birthday party or vacation, with additional settings that allow users to manually select or remove content from a collage. Once you’re happy with your Slideshow, you can add music to it and give it a title. With the update, the former option will be expanded to include real songs.
“We are always testing ways to help people better share their stories with friends. Slideshows are a new way for people to share photos and videos in a creative and succinct way,” a Facebook spokesperson told Digital Trends. “To date, we’ve been using Facebook-owned music to accompany these slideshows, we will now be testing the use of a limited amount of music from Warner Music Group as soundtrack options. ”
Although the social network has not revealed how extensive the list of Warner Music tracks will be, the record label’s roster includes the likes of Ed Sheeran, Kylie Minogue, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Wiz Khalifa, and many others.
“Pop music can add a richness to these photos and video clips,” Laura Franks, Entertainment News and Partnerships lead at Facebook, told Digital Trends. ” We’re giving people access to some of their favorite artists, so they can make amazing stories on Facebook.”
Slideshows will see Facebook wade into a popular sector: the user-created music video. Trending apps from tech startups Flipagram and musical.ly currently boast similar functions, allowing users to lip-sync to contemporary pop hits, or create their own musical clips. Additionally, viral videos showcasing the latest dance trends have become a popular mainstay on platforms such as Vine and YouTube.
Overall, personal music videos have proven popular with younger users on the aforementioned services. Flipagram, which lets users create their own take on hit songs by using videos, images, and text in 60-second clips, now claims to get over 4 billion views a day. It seems that in the race for video numbers, which has seen Snapchatcatch up to Facebook, the latter is looking to grab a chunk of that music-driven audience in order to gain back an advantage.
If you’ve held off on buying an Amazon Echo, you’ll soon have an alternative option: Google Home.
At its annual developer conference I/O on Wednesday, Google (GOOGL) announced Home, its new smart speaker. Gadget geeks have known the device was coming—it was reportedly developed under the internal codename Chirp—but now we all know a lot more. Specifically, we know Home will use the beefed-up, voice-activated Google Assistant, also announced today, and that it can serve you up music, weather, directions, flight information and much more.
In other words, Home is Google’s answer to Amazon’s Echo. And it ought to scare Amazon (AMZN), because Google has a number of pre-existing business advantages that almost guarantee this product’s success.
Big-name partner potential
During the keynote, Google showed a splashy list of partners it has been working with on its voice platform. The list was a murderer’s row of buzzy names, including TicketMaster (LYV), WhatsApp (FB), Pandora (P), GrubHub (GRUB), OpenTable, Spotify, Uber and Instacart.
Google is not yet announcing its official partners for Home, but you can expect many of these to be on the list, since they're working with Google on the voice assistant and Home operates on the voice assistant. Google is not yet opening up its Home platform to all third-party developers, as Amazon has done with Echo, but if it has partners like these, it doesn’t need to. Companies like WhatsApp, OpenTable, and Instacart would offer a user services (send a text message; book a dinner reservation; select groceries) via verbal command, without having to open up an app or visit a website.
If that sounds familiar, it’s because Facebook announced something very similar at its own developer conference, F8, just last month. Facebook (FB) is doing it in Messenger using automated chat-bots, but it’s the same kind of gambit. It’s a bet that users will love the convenience of ordering services all in one place, from a human-like entity, without having to visit the separate web homes of those individual services. Both Facebook and Google are looking down the road to a time when people want to do every web function in one place. Facebook, of course, has been moving toward that goal for years with products like Instant Articles, which let you read news stories without having to leave Facebook.
Voice tech + search data
Google has had a voice assistant for some time now, activated from your smartphone by saying, “Okay, Google,” as shown in an ongoing ad campaign. It was called Google Now. The voice technology has been praised, but the assistant has also operated a bit under the radar compared to Apple’s Siri and, now, Amazon’s Alexa.
The launch of Home, it appears, is the true coming-out party for Google Assistant. On stage at I/O, Google CEO Sundar Pichai had a conversation with the assistant and bragged that it has abilities "far beyond what other assistants can do." Yes, consider that a direct jab at Siri and Alexa and Microsoft’s lesser-known Cortana at a time when, according to Pichai, 20% of mobile searches are now made verbally.
Google has a built-in advantage here over Amazon Echo, even though Amazon was first out the gate with a smart speaker product. It has the technology, and more importantly, it has the data—a whole decade of search data that means Google has a better sense, faster, of exactly what you want when you search for something. (Amazon has earned praise, over the years, for the effectiveness of its retail recommendation engine, but that’s a different kind of proposition and can’t really compare to Google search.)
In addition to its vast data and experience in handling search queries, Google has its established suite of organizational products you use every day: Calendar, Mail, and Drive, to name a few. Expect to be able to access any of those through Home. (“Read me my Gmail,” you’ll say, as you sit in your leather recliner with a glass of port.)
As Google’s VP of product management Mario Queiroz touted at I/O, Home and its Assistant is “like having a voice-activated remote control to the real world whenever you need it.” That has been the marketing position of Echo, too, but it hasn’t yet caught fire, as consumer awareness of the product still has a long way to go. (Amazon doesn’t break out sales of its hardware, but Consumer Intelligence Research Partners recently estimated 3 million Echos have sold.)
Customizable look
Google Home doesn’t have a price yet, but it will have a customizable base. That’s appealing to anyone who doesn’t love the look of the all-black Echo. And Home certainly has a different look than the Echo: short and stout versus tall and cylindrical. It’s a little…. cuter. It somewhat resembles Nest products, which brings us to another advantage Google has in this new device battle.
Nest functionality
It raised eyebrows when Google bought Nest for $3.2 billion in 2014. The smart-home device maker has earned design plaudits for its thermostat and smoke detector, butNest hasn’t seen the sales success that Google would have hoped. Now we see how Google will attempt to take better advantage of the Nest acquisition: by linking up Assistant to Nest devices. What Google is really doing here is bringing all of its software and hardware into one hub, from which a user can access any of them, quickly. (To be sure, Echo, too, has devices it can connect with, like the Samsung home hub, Wink home hub, and Philips Hue lighting.)
Home will have the advantage of popular Google assets behind it, but it is more than just a single central hub for Google products. Jackdaw Research analyst Jan Dawson sees it as a little bit of marketing magic, too: “an attempt to bring together a set of disparate efforts at Google that have lacked a coherent brand.” Indeed, there wasn’t a single catchy name (“Googie?”) for Google’s voice assistant before. There still isn’t a human name, but with Home and messaging app Allo (also announced today at I/O), there are now concrete outlets for the assistant. “This should help Google compete more effectively both with Amazon’s Echo device but also with better-branded personal assistants like Siri, Cortana, and Alexa,” Dawson says.
Why not go ahead and give the assistant a human name? Perhaps it’s better to leave that up to you. Dawson says the lack of a human name “may make it harder for users to engage with it on a personal level, but also avoids some of the problematic issues with generally female-gendered assistants.”
Google Assistant is genderless and faceless, which is actually fitting of Google’s image. The bigger question: Is it useful enough to spur purchases of Home?
